The 262 room Courtyard Hotel by Marriott, financed by American Life, Inc., opened in the Pioneer Square district of Seattle in June 2010. Set in one of the most historic tourist districts in America, the hotel was built on the original site of the Alaska Building.. The project went through an interior reconstruction and renovation project that retained the old world charm of the historical building, while resulting in a brand new 262-room hotel featuring stunning views of downtown, the waterfront, sports stadiums, and Mount Rainer.
The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was awarded “Best Historic Restoration Project” by the Associated Builders and Contractors. Lead by Clark Design Group of Seattle, a new tower was constructed at the axis of the existing L-shaped building to provide seismic integrity, so that limited alterations and modifications were done to the historic interior spaces.
